چکیده

The goal of this project is to make the vehicle teleoperation (remote driving) accessible to all users, novices and experts alike. To achieve this, Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology at Lausanne (EPFL) are collaborating to investigate advanced teleoperation operator interfaces. Under this joint research effort, a new system model for teleoperation, Web-based user interfaces, and sensor-fusion displays are being developed. The long-term research objective is to develop systems in which humans and robots engage in constructive dialogue, to work together and to jointly solve problems. During the past two years, research expertise, techniques, and results have been exchanged between CMU and EPFL through a regular series of graduate level student exchanges. In addition, research results have been disseminated through conference papers, student theses, and public colloquia (technical and non-technical).

Advanced Interfaces for Vehicle Teleoperation: Collaborative Control, Sensor Fusion Displays, and Remote Driving Tools

We are working to make vehicle teleoperation accessible to all users, novices and experts alike. In our research, we are developing a new control model for teleoperation, sensor-fusion displays and a suite of remote driving tools. Our goal is to build a framework which enables humans and robots to communicate, to exchange ideas and to resolve differences. In short, to develop systems in which h...

From Teleoperation to the Cognitive Human - Robot Interface

Robots are slowly moving from factories to mines, construction sites, public places and homes. This new type of robot or robotized working machine – field and service robots (FSR) – should be capable of performing different kinds of tasks in unstructured changing environments, not only among humans but through continuous interaction with humans. The main requirements for an FSR are mobility, ad...

Teleoperation User Interfaces for Mining Robotics

This paper describes the requirements for user interfaces for teleoperation of mining vehicles and systems. The current status of teleoperation in mining is outlined. Current commercial interfaces are relatively unsophisticated, evolving from line-of-sight remote control systems with the addition of video displays. The user interfaces for two experimental teleoperated systems, the Numbat emerge...

Vehicle Teleoperation Interfaces

Despite advances in autonomy, there will always be a need for human involvement in vehicle teleoperation. In particular, tasks such as exploration, reconnaissance and surveillance will continue to require human supervision, if not guidance and direct control. Thus, it is critical that the operator interface be as efficient and as capable as possible. In this paper, we provide an overview of veh...
